How to use an at-home tooth whitening kit
Once you have your bespoke whitening trays, it is straightforward to load them with the whitening gel. Your dentist will explain how to use them so that you can start your journey to a brighter smile.
FAQs on tooth whitening
-
Boutique Whitening is a dentist-prescribed, at-home whitening system. We create bespoke whitening trays that are made to fit your teeth comfortably and accurately. You’ll then apply the whitening gel at home for a set period of time each day, gradually lightening your teeth over the course of your treatment.
Because the process is gradual and supervised by your dentist, it’s a gentler and more controlled way to whiten your teeth compared to over-the-counter products.

Teeth whitening is a simple process. Whitening products contain one of two bleaches (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide). These bleaches break stains into smaller pieces, which makes the colour less concentrated and your teeth brighter.
Boutique teeth whitening by day is a 6% hydrogen peroxide gel, containing potassium nitrate, which is proven desensitiser. Worn for only one hour per day, the gel is designed for patients who want a fast, comfortable and convenient solution to whiter teeth. This gel releases large quantities of oxygen free radicals (which whiten the teeth) over a short period of time, therefore whitening teeth both quickly and safely. The fast results are visible in less than a week.
By night is a carbamide peroxide gel available in a 10% or 16%, containing potassium nitrate, which is proven desensitizer. Worn for four hours, or overnight, the night gel is designed for patients who would prefer to not have their custom trays in during the day and would prefer to whiten whilst they are asleep. This gel releases oxygen free radicals (which whiten the teeth) over a longer period of time, owing to its sustained release. This gradual approach will still give fantastic results, because of the length of time the gel stays active

Tooth whitening doesn’t change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers, but it can significantly brighten your natural tooth shade. Results vary from person to person, depending on the starting shade of your teeth and the type of staining present. Most patients notice a visible improvement within the first couple of weeks.
-
When prescribed and monitored by a dental professional, tooth whitening is very safe. We’ll assess your teeth and gums beforehand to make sure whitening is suitable for you and talk you through what to expect. Some people experience temporary sensitivity during treatment, which usually settles quickly and can be managed easily.

Tooth whitening is suitable for many patients, but it isn’t appropriate for everyone. A consultation is the best way to find out if it’s right for you, discuss your expectations, and ensure your teeth and gums are healthy before starting treatment.
